I guess it started when I was about 10 months old on a shopping trip with my mom and aunt. I was in the awkward phase between standing up and full mobility. But apparently on this day I had finally had enough with the stationary lifestyle. As the story goes, I let go of the shopping cart and starting running down the aisle. As you could image the reaction of both my mom and aunt was part confusion and part excitement, “HE CAN’T WALK!?!” Well, I couldn’t, but I could sure run and I have to imagine I was running straight to the candy rack.
In a lot of ways I have not looked back since. Not only has running become my passion, but I have gone on to live life with the youthful optimism of a 10 month year old who thinks that sometimes you can run before you walk.
Fast forward about 30 years and once again I am running. But this time instead of being motivated by a lollipop, my motivation comes from a simple, eye opening experience with a red, so-called “performance” top. This experience made me realize that the status quo of the apparel industry sacrifices the safety of people and the planet to make products and ultimately their profits. I knew there was a better way and decided to change the game. I left my job and entered into the word of entrepreneurship in something I knew nothing about – performance sportswear.
The way I see it, Atayne (www.atayne.com) is the change. As I set out to create the highest performing sportswear with a strong commitment to planet and people safety, I am on a mission to find other Game Changers who want to make their impact on the sport and not the planet. I hope you join.
